Spirit Of Gowanda

Each year, the community is asked to nominate those whom they feel best represents the Spirit of Gowanda.  There are two categories: business and community service.

This year, the Gowanda area Chamber of Commerce has decided to forego te usual nomination process and celebrate the spirit of the entire Gowanda community for their efforts during the August flood and the recovery afterwards.

The Spirit of Gowanda dinner will be held March 27th at the American Legion Post 409.  Steve Cocoa will act as emcee for the evening.  Dinner will once again be catered by the Mustard Seed restaurant.  There will be Theme baskets as well.  New this year will be a live auction and music provided by the Volks.

The auction will feature numerous donated packages along the Amish Trail, all of which commend Gowanda residents for their fortitude and strength during the trying times of the flood.  More information will be forthcoming on the various packages.

In addition, there will be a slide show of the flood and the efforts (spirit) of Gowanda’s citizens rather than the usual program of presentations.

One of the most exciting announcements by the Gowanda Area Chamber of Commerce regarding the Spirit dinner is that the Chamber will be compiling a book about the flood, with photos and stories collected from community members.  Anticipated release date will be in August, around the anniversary of the flood. (Those with photos to submit along with descriptions/stories may submit them electronically to mpankow@metrowny.com or drop them off at the Gowanda news office.
